SSTEC lays foundation for green transport in Tianjin Eco-City

发布日期:2009-09-02

Beijing/Tianjin/Singapore, 2 September 2009 - Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Investment and Development Co., Ltd (SSTEC) is fostering collaborations with leading Singapore transport organisations that will lay the foundation for a comprehensive and effective green transport system in the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City (Tianjin Eco- City).

The green transport system which features public transport system and electric and hybrid electric vehicles for both public vehicles and private cars will contribute towards improving air quality and reducing carbon emissions in the Tianjin Eco-City.

SSTEC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the LTA Academy, set up by the Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA), on the development of training and policy research programmes for sustainable land transport in the Tianjin Eco-City.

One area of collaboration will be for LTA Academy to take on a policy advisory role in the development of land transport systems for the Tianjin Eco-City, tapping on its successful experience in Singapore.

Mr Yam Ah Mee, Chief Executive of LTA said “Singapore has adopted a holistic approach to land transport; and implemented various policies to promote sustainable and green transport.”

“LTA Academy is pleased to be the first public sector training institution to sign MOU with SSTEC. The MOU will provide a good platform for LTA Academy to share Singapore's experience and expertise in building a sustainable and people-centred land transport system with Tianjin Eco-City as well as other Chinese Cities.”

The second MOU was signed with Singapore Technologies Kinetics Ltd (ST Kinetics), the land systems and specialty vehicles arm of Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd, to undertake a feasibility study on the implementation of a green public transport network in the Tianjin Eco-City, and similar studies in the future for a green private transport network.

ST Kinetics will also consider setting up a plant in the Tianjin Eco-City to produce electric and hybrid-electric powertrain kits to serve the Eco-City and northern China, as well as explore setting up office in the Eco-Business Park.

Mr Sew Chee Jhuen, President of ST Kinetics said, "ST Kinetics is pleased to be working with SSTEC and the local authorities to jointly explore the potential applications of our suite of alternative energy technologies in pure-electric, hybrid-electric and hybridhydraulics powertrain solutions for city buses, commercial and passenger vehicles and heavy trucks to meet the green transportation requirements of the Tianjin Eco-City and beyond."

Mr Goh Chye Boon, CEO of SSTEC said “Leveraging the proven track record and experience of LTA Academy and ST Kinetics, further enhanced our confidence that together we will successfully develop a new benchmark for green transport systems and a model for other cities.”

“Both collaborations are key in our strategy for green transportation that will demonstrate our commitment to transform the way people commute in a sustainable fashion and leading a sustainable lifestyle.”

The MOUs were signed at an international seminar “Green Transport for Growing Cities” co-organised by LTA Academy and Tsinghua University’s Institute of Transportation Engineering in Beijing from 2 to 3 September 2009. SSTEC was a main co-sponsor for the event where its Chief Operating Officer, Mr Lim Chin Chong, shared SSTEC’s experience in the Tianjin Eco-City project. Seminar delegates will also be visiting the Tianjin Eco-City to understand its overall developmental and green transport plans.
